The WIND and SOLAR HOUSE may or may not have natural gas supply. This depends on the original condition before conversion. This project seeks to utilize the many houses now in foreclosure or disrepare as the greenest way to establish sustainable housing. New houses should only be built when it is the very best option. If natural gas is available it will be utilized in the most efficeint way but the consideration here is for the use of the electrical energy produced from the discussed power modules.
Hot water from the roof in-laid pex tubing is stored in thremo-siphon tanks where possible but the best way to ensure temperature regulation and long term storage is the final storage in the GE hybrid water heater, GeoSpring.
The GeoSpring water heater should be located in a kitchen closet with ducted axcess to the attic. The kitchen always has the most heated air available for the heat pump and the attic in summer is a great natural sorce of heat. This air precooling by the water heater will also reduce the load on the air conditioning system.
The previous asertion about the use of recycled forklift batteries has been revised because of the danger of hydrogen gas explosion if the storage space is not always vented. In hot 3rd world conditions outside ventilation bring heat, moisture and increased costs. LiPO4 batteries are new, very expensive and are subject to power loss if stored for long periods. The GE DURATHON is the best power storage solution as it can be integrated with all the projects as a portable power sorce.
The Ideal solution is to have this battery in an electic car where the battery is removeable and exchangeable with ones in the house. There would be no need for charging downtime or need to fastcharge repeatedly. Fully charged batteries could be leased out to others in need, making this a way to sell green power. (tax free).

The storage of electrical energy presents the most expensive and dangerous problem in this project. In terms of efficeincy and safety LiPO4 batteries are the best sollution, especialy if the house is morgaged to the bank or is otherwise insured. In rural areas and 3rd World Countries 'recycled forklift batteries are a cheaper alternative.
In comercial use most forklift batteries (deep cycle Lead/acid batteries) are fast charged (at 5hr or 6hr rate) between power use. The life of the battery is thus shortend by 50% or more. It is then descarded and replaced with a new one. If the old one is purchased at a discounted price it can be easily refurbished and used with slow charging (12hr to 20hr rate). The slower charging rate is ideal for the WIND and SOLAR HOUSE storage requirement. Any cost reduction makes the project more viable.
In the Carabbean most of the imported cars are "used cars" from Japan. This lowers the cost of purchasing a car locally and enables the Japanese to design and sell more new cars in Japan and USA. This model of component recycling can reduce the cost of wind and solar power modules and increase thier adoption.

SINGLE FAMILY HOUSE

A modern single famliy house needs between 5.0kW to 7.5kW of peek power and a total of 12kW.hr to 18kW.hr a day in energy use. Due to the way a traditional swich on 'power on demand' alternating current (AC) electrical sytem works (safety is more important than effiency), about 20% to 50% of power is wasted in supply and poor utilization. A DC HOME would get by with much less.
The basic power modules needed start with the roof mounted SOLAR PEDAL WIND TURBINE. This module made with 4'x 8' sails can be installed on the leeward edge of the roof apex and has a 10'x 7' footprint. Two or three modules can fit one house roof providing power in sunny and windy conditions.
The South facing roof of the house is prime solar real estate and the SPWT should not be located there. The roof itself is made with integrated pex tubing under currugated uv protected polycarbonate on a 'torch down' ruberized roofing cover (black). The connections of the pex tubing is arranged in such a way that different areas of the roof can be cooled or made to provide hot water. The tubes running under the FOLDING PV SOLAR COLLECTOS cool the PV panel, improving the collector effiecency by 5%. Opening the PV collectors gives maximum solar power but it must be remembered that PV collectors are "passive" devices and produce power ONLY if it being used or stored. Closing the PV collectors when not required extends usefull life, protects against damage, provides security during vacations/bad weather and allows for increase production/storage of solar hot water. It is cheaper and easier to store excess hot water than excess electricity.
The same idea of using pex tubing on the South facing wall to pre warm the water and cool the house is an option to consider.
A ground level patio or garage roof could be covered with a modified PV solar collector. The CLOSABLE ROTATING PV TRELLIS is an extended structural PV pannel with a steel plate back and uv protected polycarbonate front. Bearings at the ends and sprockets at one end allow it to rotate open in sunlight or close with adjacent panels interlocking to form a closed roof.
The appliances in the house are designed to maximize the use of available or easy to store power rather than relly on electrical power. The air conditioner and refrigerator use "chilled water" for cooling, with thermally activated pumps controlling energy use. Simular pumps provide instant hot water from the stored HOT WATER HEAT PUMP and solar hot water storage tank. Compressed air is stored when theri is too much power and some of it is CHILLED to provide COLD COMPRESSED AIR. This air can be expanded through a heat exchanger to provide power and cooling when required while reducing the need for electricity storage.
Lighting needs are carefully integrated with solar windows, Low E glass, reflected LED's and light soffits. Heating is via heat pumps with pex tubing in walls and floors and windows are fitted with heat exchanging ventilation systems.
More could be done but this is a start.

Powering your home is the goal but how that is achieved depends on the definition of the words "power" and "home".
Conservation of existing power supply and the smart(er) use of power are proven and accecpted means of extending power, most of the projects in this challenge address these ideas very well and I am suporting some of them. This project seeks to offer a number of integrated power modules that can be adapted to various defintions of a home.
The home :-
a) Single family house, rural, 3rd World, suburban, urban or city.
b) Multi family house, with greater shared power needs.
c) Condo, Co-op, High rise complex or village. Mini-grid power needs.
d) Mobile home, vacation home, agircultural shed or storage house.
e) Yacht, boat-house or fishing boat.

The power modules discussed are THE SOLAR PEDAL WIND TURBINE, THE CLOSABLE ROTATING SOLAR PV TRELLIS, THE CLOSABLE FOLDING PV COLLECTOR, THE ROOF/WALL PEX WATER HEATER, THE 5 BLADE REAR MOUNTED HAWT and THE DUCTED AXIAL HAWT.

In order to conserve the power generated the concepts discussed in THE DC HOME are put into practice as regards DC wiring, hot and cold water storage, chilled water refridgeration/HVAC and garbage waste DIGESTION/BIOGAS. Other important ideas have been left out for patent reasons.
