Overview: The Energy Kiosk concept revolves around centralized power generation using renewable energy sources, and decentralized power distribution via battery boxes. Our battery boxes deliver energy to power lights and other small electronic devices. In developing countries, such a setup enhances the quality of life for local entrepreneurs, families and students.

What a terrific idea. I think the idea of centralized energy distribution, and education, can have such a tremendous impact. Not only are you directly helping people, but it seems like this will empower communities and encourage them to take next steps and improve on this idea with you so that more win-wins are created. I see you as directly supplying energy, but also as a conduit for more technology learning. I imagine classes and DIY sessions for hands on learning which can open up so many opportunities for people to improve their lives and perhaps open up whole new career paths and even industries. I also see that these centers can serve as a conduit back to you for some great energy ideas from people who know their needs and communities best. Great luck!

I like this model. Would you also be selling LED lighting to your customers at a rate they can afford?

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like a great plan. I like that the LED lights are included in the box rentals.

Thank you, Laura! We are not actually selling our battery boxes (with the LED lights), but instead offer two different renting schemes. This way, we allow the customers to choose the payment model which best suits their consumption pattern. The two schemes are pay-per-recharge and a monthly flatrate model. We have developed our solution in such a way that, on the customer side, our pricing is low enough to offer a cheaper alternative to the commonly used, but very expensive and health-threatening kerosene lamps. At the same time, our solution guarantees financial sustainability on the initiator's side. This is due to our implementation of a business model that allows for a projected break-even period of the kiosk of five to seven years. After this period, we aim to hand over the kiosk to local governments or communities. They can then run the kiosk in a sustainable manner without further investments on their behalf. Hope that answered your question, thanks again for your support!

Your motivation is very admirable, providing power in developing countries is a great goal. I'd like to propose that our technology will achieve the same result you desire but in a way that is more efficient and reliable than your battery boxes. Your solution is perfect for implementation now... but our technology will be what you choose to use in the future.

This project seems to address the main problem, in rural areas in poorer countries, namely the cost and difficulty of getting batteries for photovoltaic storage. Check out my project:

Thank you very much for your support, ciaran!
Education is indeed one of the key elements to help developing countries advance. This is one of the points we adress directly by providing an LED light as well as a light holder together with our battery boxes. Students are therefore no longer restricted to working during the day. They can also communicate more easily with their peers because they can charge their mobile phones with our battery boxes.
Other benefits access to electricity can bring about concern issues such as health and safety. To give an example, our battery boxes offer a cheaper and safer alternative to the widely used, but very expensive and hazardous kerosene lamps.
Another factor we have aim to bring forward with our Energy Kiosks is the creation of entrepreneurial spirit. We have observed that our customers use the battery box and lighting solution to operate new or existing businesses, such as bars and barber shops, creating long-term economical value in our targeted communities.
