In order to produce this product more will have to be known about mitochondrial heating. In addition to plants, human infants also contain cells (brown fat) that are able to perform substantial mitochondrial heating. A better understanding of the process in plants can lead to more knowledge about infant disease associated with an inability to heat themselves properly.
I guess I should also point out that this would take a bit more work than previous GM products, due to the need for additional primary research, but it is doable and based on science that I do every day in the lab.

you comment is again difficult to understand, and I cannot properly answer it without a proper understanding. When you say "For a net gain," what are you referring to? In other words, what are you implying needs to have a net gain and please restate the context of the statement.

Presumably, the plant spends most of its time converting sunlight to chemical potential energy, and a short season releasing heat. For a net gain, you'd have to bring in plants that had grown outside. Usually, we do that as firewood.

true, input does have to equal output. A plants inputs are carbon dioxide, light, and soil nutrients. Put simply, the energy in light is used to drive processes that transform CO2 into other compounds. Soil provides only elements that cannot be obtained through the air. A majority of plants gain most of their mass through CO2 transformation. (You likely knew all of this and i only pointed it out for others who may read this comment). The fact is that their already are plants that are able to sustain elevated heat levels for periods lasting up to a week. Also, imagine if a normal tomato plant had instead used the energy to produce tomatoes to produce heat. My point is, plants clearly have enough input. let me know if you have any questions.

I am confused by your comment. Are you suggesting that this would use up to much compost? It would not use any more than is already used for two reasons. First, compost is not the main ingredient in most house plant soils, only an additive. Second, this should not significantly increase the number of plants in a house. It would only serve to replace non heat producing ones with heat producing ones. (again, maybe I am misunderstanding your comment)
