Good luck in NYC! Keep us updated on progress. I love the idea, but I also have to say I really also hope to see more green building that I know can be mainstreamed? You can push the edge and make a cool museum, but we need to move technology along to the point where green building products compete well in every way and are as accessible as possible to the average person. We aren't there yet, and efforts like yours will certainly help get attention. But does this make every New Yorker want to be more green? I don't know.

No this is a middle class single family home built for under $250 per square foot - significantly less than the penthouse market.

The top of the structure is actually open on one side. The interior of the top is actually a reflection panel that is aimed at the winter sun. When the home needs solar gain (in the winter) the reflection panel will reflect winter sun downward into the 2 story greenhouse. The remainder of the house is made with very thick walls that serve as thermal mass. The walls will absorb the heat from the winter sun during the day. At night when no sun is present the walls will emit that stored heat back into the home. The house is designed to have a stable temperature range of 68-72 degrees the entire year without any fossil fuel based systems. In summary the structure reaches up to the sky and reflects the winter sun into the home.

Mera - almost all of our technology is NOT off the shelf. We are using passive thermal strategies and angling toward the sun for solar heat gain. We are using tubes buried in the ground - combined with skylight vents to create convection engines for supplying cool air. Even the wind mill will be built on site. A majority of our technologies are being built from scrap and trash on site. We endeavor to create technologies that dont need to be sold and are available to any one to recreate themselves.

After carefully reviewing your idea, I'd like to add that the true value behind inovation relies heavily uopn an idea's ability to have future impacts economically, environmentally, and socially. These impacts are worth noting, because they remain the only way to help promote a greener and more energy efficient future. Through practical everyday application, it is ideas like yours and mine that will be critical to widespread changes.
