Innovation is on display at CES 2011, where I'm energized to see rows of energy efficient appliances, home technologies– and even solar panels – on the show floor.
But now it's your turn to share your innovations. Starting Tuesday, January 18, GE and its partners want to see your ideas for how we use energy in the next-generation eco-home.
GE and its venture capital and strategic partners are launching the next phase of its $200 million ecomagination Challenge, "Powering Your Home", which calls for innovations in harnessing and managing energy at home. We will be accepting ideas from January 18 through March 1, 2011 at www.ecomagination.com/challenge. In addition to investment, commercial relationships and other partnership opportunities, a judging panel will evaluate entries for exemplary entrepreneurship and innovation and select another round of five innovation award winners.
We are excited to announce the news at CES, since "Powering Your Home" will focus on technologies that consumers can touch and feel. It is being launched as a response to the overwhelming level of engagement and passion for big energy issues we saw in the first Challenge. To date, we have received more than 1,000 ideas in the home energy management space, which is why this new phase of the Challenge is ripe for innovation and investment to drive growth. We will be looking for new ideas and also re-examining ideas from the initial phase through the lens of innovative power use in the home.
The eco-home of the future will require a network of ideas from around the world. There is no "one size fits all" solution. We looking forward to uncovering new innovations to help bring to market and will announce the Innovation Award winners and next tranche of funding this spring.
Best of luck, and we look forward to building the next generation eco-home with you.
